Pro: Horror elements/story, variety of puzzles (mostly logic based), excellent HO searches and clear, beautiful graphics. Cons: No "instant travel" map, items/puzzles have you running all over the place. To be honest, the constant, moving pace of the story offset its often-tedious runs. Each puzzle or HO gives you objects that seem to reward the player with bits of the story, keeping things interesting and always on the ?go?. The HO searches are clear and well done. The items you find in each search are ?gone? the next time you visit the area, leaving a brand new set of items to find. The puzzles are definitely on the challenging side, since accidentally skipping a HO search or that item you forgot to pick-up on the ground ? relatively easy to do. While the journal does give you clues on what you should be doing next, I still found myself getting stuck at times - resulting in the wonderful "click fest". Yet, while the challenging side of the puzzles may turn some off, the reason I found them to be a very, very welcome change is that most, if not all, were puzzles based on ?logic?. This game makes you actually stop and think about what you need to do next. The journal does well to give you the clues and entries on recent happenings in order to keep you moving forward. Things like smoking out a beehive, or plugging up holes that spout water have solutions that actually make sense. This game keeps you guessing and thinking. When you do find the answer, it has a very rewarding feeling to it. You knew how to solve it, it was just the matter of finding the right combination of tools for the job. This is a HORROR-themed asylum game. Do not get this if you do not like horror games! The CE has the normal fair of extras, a bonus level, some artwork and the ?eerily soothing? soundtrack. You won?t miss anything if you buy the normal edition, so get what appeals most to you. As always, get the demo, and while you?re at it, buy the game.
While saving people from their fears, you can enjoy many good, interesting and new puzzles, with good level of challenging. The graphics are excellent, frightening and tense environment, great music. Fears are very well featured in its characters. Super recommend!
I enjoyed this game. The storyline was good and easy to get around. Did not have to go all over the place to keep going forward. I think all the ERS games are great to play. I have played all of these now and there all great. Good HOS and puzzles and the hint button works good. Great adventure.
Absolutely love this game! only 10 mins in and already hooked! Love the other haunted halls just as much as this and can't decide between the 2!...love the adventure and storyline and just enough hidden object scenes which don't get repetitive after a while. Spooky scenes with the light switched off just add to feel of this fantastic game. :-)
The collectors edition is probably one of my favorites games thus far. Neat visuals and fun bonus game. It had a fun, creepy feel to it and love the idea of it being set in a sanitarium.
Excellent - Fantastic - Magnificent. Big Fish and ERS must be congratulated on an overwhelming presentation of Green hills Sanitarium. The Collectors Edition games are definately a cut above the rest in that the inbuilt strategy guide in this game is a great help. Tim has been on an assignment in the assylum after hearing of unfavourable reports about the place and was sent to investigate, but letters to his girlfriend ceased abruptly causing her to go to the sanitarium and try to locate Tim. Along the way she has to save several of the unfortunate residents of their fears. The dialogue is basically non existant save for a few lines of guidance and explanation when clicking on objects and tasks and when the unfortunate victims are saved from their fears. The graphics are what you would expect in a haunted and decrepit, derelict and dingy establishment and are surprisingly clear, precise and well detailed. The puzzles and mini games are generally challenging and inventive and most take a bit nutting out but are mainly based on logic, and once you get the gist of what is required, seems to fall into place. The hidden objects are of a mixed bag, simple to a bit of searching to some quite hard to find. I thought this game was excellent and challenging as I had to refer to the Strategy guide frequently to make sure that I stayed on track. It is extremely easy to just wander off, then find that you can go no further because you have missed a vital piece of a puzzle or missed visiting a room with a necessary item. Thoroughly recommend this game, a good buy.
this game had my heart pounding! the art & sounds are amazing & creepy, & the story gave me chills! I'm pretty sure I jumped out of my seat a few times!
LENGTH: Over 4 challenging, enjoyable hours at casual play STORY/GAMEPLAY: Visit Dr. Blackmore?s Green Hills Sanitarium, the last hope for the desperately psychiatrically helpless. Save 10 patients before you are able to save your friend, who failed to save the patients and instead became Dr. Blackmore?s victim himself. Good challenge throughout. Many locations, including outbuildings, and lots to do. An interactive map would have been helpful, so remember what is in each room and where that room is located so you don?t get hopelessly lost. Each patient has an interesting story surrounding the circumstances of their stay as you help them overcome their fears which have imprisoned them in Green Hills. Music is sometimes relaxing and other times as uproariously noisy as a theme park filled with kids. The HOS are rather busy but very detailed, so you shouldn?t have much of a problem finding the objects. Puzzles are widely varied and are neither mind-boggling nor simplistic. They are well done. Extremely good production values. You usually can figure out what to do, but if you get help, the hint button tells you if nothing is to be done in a location or points to where you can do something (which can be very helpful later in the game when there are several locations open). I don?t recall where this particular game is in the series, but it doesn?t matter whether you?ve played them. It is a stand-alone game with the promise of more to come. I recommend this game, as well as the other Haunted Halls, Green Hill games if you like a challenging game.
I played this one when it first out and never give a review. So I'm just say, I do really enjoy this game from beginning 'til the end. Love it and this game is my one of my favorite games so far (yes, I have a list). Thank you ers and good job for making this creepy yet great game at that time!
Thumbs Up on this one. There's really nothing wrong I could say about this HO game. This was one of the few I did not turn down the music. Much thought and planning went into this one. Never got bored, and even had to use hint twice. LOL. Good Job.
